Ruth Wales du Pont, daughter of Edward H. and Ruth Hawks Wales, was born on June 10, 1889 in New York. She attended Miss Spencer's School in New York City and the Peabody Institute in Baltimore, Md. Her interests included music and historic restoration. She was a trustee of Tryon Palace, New Bern, S.C.
